Is Spidey wearing a symbiote?

Here's the magnificent teaser poster for Spider-Man 3, which won't be hitting theaters for another 14 months.

Sony says that Spidey's costume is indeed black, not the traditional red and blue.

Alien symbiote?

Venom?

Can't wait.

[I know this post is confusing as hell for those of you unfamiliar with the comic book Spider-Man. But I promise...this poster and what it seems to imply is BIG news.]

Having loved the balance between the human story and the zap-pow-bang sequences in the first two films, I have to admit being alarmed at the idea of trying to continue the humanity while squeezing in slugfests with Venom, the Sandman and the new Green Goblin. That, and the symbiote storyline is when the comic finally "jumped the shark" for me, so I'm hoping the black costume is a red herring. Maybe he falls in a tub of waste oil.

BW, I can't imagine that Sam Raimi, so in love with the character and his "humanity," will disappoint us.

Eh, I'm fairly cold towards the movies. I like the black costume from an aesthetic point of view, though. I'm sure the artists always loved it because they didn't have to draw all those fiddly little web-lines on his head and back anymore.

How are they going to explain a symbiote without Secret Wars? Brian Michael Bendis Ultimate Spidey style?
