I was born in west Texas, and my family still lives in Lubbock. When I visited them a few years ago I went to the Buddy Holly museum. The most memorable part was Holly's broken glasses, which were found in a field well after his death by some farmer. Haunting.
You should check out a great radio show out of Long Island called the Tuesday Night Rock and Roll Dance Party, which had a tribute to Holly, Richie Valens, & the Big Bopper, at http://rockandrollradio.org/playlists/2009/february09.html.
