I celebrate Christmas early
I’m still breathless from my trip to Costco yesterday afternoon. Costco has marked down all five DVD box sets of Babylon 5 — seasons one through five, every damn one of them — to just $15.99 apiece. I’ve been a big fan of the series for more than a decade, but have always winced at the $59.99 price tag I see on the sets. So as you can imagine, I quickly plunked down $79.95 at Costco and bought all five of ’em yesterday. An early Christmas present to myself.
For the next few weeks, it seems my life’s gonna be filled with

B5 is pretty retro. I'm jealous!
Woohoo! Just think, when you get to that scene with G'kar saying, "Dead, dead, dead, dead," etc., you can think of Iraq/Afghanistan. Just in case you're outrage-challenged, you understand.
Tom, Babylon 5 was great space opera, so if that's "retro," I agree wholeheartedly!
So you're saying I should have kept watching after I wasn't impressed by the pilot episode?
B.W., I wasn't particularly impressed by the first season, but my mind rapidly changed with season two. In addition to that, as the series progressed, I realized that seeds planted in the pilot and the first season bore tremendous and shocking fruit later on. B5 was one of the few instances where the creator of a TV series actually planned a five-year story arc with a beginning, middle, and end. A fantastic sci-fi series, IMHO.
B.W., I second everything Wally said. It's just a damn shame that the threat of the series being cancelled bolloxed the fourth and fifth seasons.
